PE, Sport & Physical Activity

PE Sport & Physical Activity

The academy is very fortunate in having good indoor and outside facilities, upper and lower playground, for PE and games. The academy also possesses a large playing field, which is used for a range of activites and to develop physical activity during lunchtime, along with 2 halls, 1 with gymnastic apparatus and the other for dance. The school is proud to have gained the Playmark from Play England for its provision during lunchtime.  The children participate in sports day every year.  KS2 children have the opportunity to represent the school at various sporting tournaments and competitions across the year.  During Year 6, children attend swimming lessons at Ossett Academy. For the past few years, we have hosted the mini Olympics for all KS1 children from the Ossett schools to attend. KS1 children also take part in a mini Olympics at Thornes park, this is hosted by the MAT.

Every half term we are having our own intra school event based on skills the children have developed in their PE lessons. The children have the opportunity to attend various after school clubs:

The after school clubs are as follows:- Multi sports for KS1 and KS2, Dance and Fitness for KS1 and KS2, Netball for KS2, Maypole dancing and Gym.

·           Confidence, knowledge, understanding and skills.

·           Helped raise the profile of PE, health and sport.

·           Dedicated and specialist resources have been purchased.

Allowed PE specialists to lead and support teachers, giving the children excellent oppportunities.

Please see our curriculum document below. By creating and adopting this progressive curriculum, we hope that the children will know more and remember more. They will develop their understanding and be able to demonstrate this accordingly.
